Review for retro gamers,
This review is from the perspective of a retro gamer for other retro gamers wondering if it’s worth dropping $70+ on this product. The HDMI converter does what it says: it converted all RGB SCART connections I had into 720p: Genesis/SNES/N64 (modded)/Saturn. The enclosure is metal, but I don’t recall any rubber feet on it, so though it feels solid, it’s still very light and you may need to attach some feet of your own if you want it to stay in a certain place.
As for the quality of the upscale for retro gamers, I can’t really recommend this. I’ll only be using this in places where I wouldn’t have my current setup and just needed to get a system connected to HDMI, or as a hold-over until I can get a larger SCART switch. The device introduces too many artifacts to the game graphics during upscaling. I used a benchmarking ROM on the Genesis to verify: it affects the transparency and drop shadow effects, causes rainbow colors in certain black and white crosshatch patterns, and introduces a significant amount of ringing. This is particularly noticeable on RPG text. In Brain Lord for SNES, certain words are highlighted in the text. With this device, the blue of the windows crowds in on the highlighted text. The ringing on the highlighted words makes it harder to read and makes the words appear less bold than they should.
An interesting positive note is that it somehow seemed to eliminate the vertical bars I normally saw on the Genesis with certain colors in the color bar benchmark. The color gradient was smooth with this device.
Not that this device claimed to do anything about this problem, or that it would be possible for it to, but in case you were curious: the device also does nothing to remove the audio buzz from the SNES while displaying images of high contrast (usually in RPGS when text windows are displayed).

|Doesn’t improve picture much.,
I have standard Sky Sat from England. The converter makes it easy to connect the Sky box to a HMDI plug but I had a hard time telling any difference in the picture.
